A father’s role should be that of a guide
Who points out the pitfalls of life.
He walks with his children through thick and through thin
And leads them through trouble and strife.
He gives them the tools they’ll need to survive
In a world fraught with dangers unknown;.
A “Rock of Gibralter”, a mentor, a friend
Who’s there by their side till they’re grown.
A father’s role is to teach and instruct
In the techniques of riding a bike.
But compared to the time when they’re driving his car
Those instructions will seem rather trite.
A father’s role, when he’s raising a son
Is to be like a friend all his life.
But his role for a daughter is often quite sad
For he gives her to be someone’s wife.
