A Grandfather's Role (Family)

To be a young father is really quite nice
While your energy level is high,
And your nerves are like steel, and you veins are like ice,
And your youth gets you through late at night.

But a grandfather's role can be really a joy
'Cause there's nothing to be but a friend
Who brings the kids candy and cookies and toys
And who causes their parents to cringe.

To know how to fish is a grandfather's role
When his grandkids are ready to learn;
To teach them to wield a long fishing pole
And just how to hook on a worm.

His role is to teach them to build their own kite
And which way they should run with the string.
To show them that what they are thinking is right,
That Granddad can do anything.

A grandfather's role is to give his advice
Based on years of exerience past.
An occasional hug is also quite nice
And will make the relationship last.

And on a bad day when his patience is thin
And he just wants to be left alone.
The best thought of all which will make Granddad grin,
Is the thought, he can send them back home.
